We had an amazing field trip at The Confluence Historical Site and Parkland this week. It was a great opportunity for us to visit this place of significance, reflect on history and learn about the people who shaped our city. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who were able to join us and make it possible to go...we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
We participated in a few different sessions and learned so much! We talked about the 3 indigenous groups - First Nations, Inuit and Metis, and learned some important Blackfoot words that we can use to demonstrate our understanding and respect - we say iinii instead of buffalo and lodge instead of tipi. We learned a little more about how Canada was originally called Kanata and had the opportunity to work through different stations learning about the importance of the land.
We took a walk to see where the Elbow and Bow rivers meet and had the chance to see a true Metis cabin!
We had lots of fun engaging in hands on activities like building a log cabin as well as learning and playing a variety of Inuit games!
